This tragic event was the first time many people learned of the eating disorders
anorexia nervosa and bulimia. But, it turns out that a person obsessing about
what they eat is not necessarily a recent anomaly. In fact, doctors in England
first reported cases of anorexia in the 1860s.
In a nutshell, this is
the process. You sit down at the table, one parent on each side of your
daughter, and you work with her to take one more bite than she wants to. One
bite, that's all. You continue to do this at meal times and you will slowly gain
back the ground that the eating disorder has stolen from you and your daughter.
If you imagine yourself sitting in front of a computer and you are
"wearing" your sensors, you'll be able to see your actual brain wave patterns on
the computer screen. Yes, it's very cool!
If all the conditions are not
treated at the same time, treatment outcomes are usually poor, and what would
ordinarily be considered a small slip can turn into a cascading event, almost
like a house of cards, with one slip triggering another one rapidly.
I
remember when I was bulimic, I always felt as though people were having a go at
me... If somebody commented on how much I had eaten, even in alight hearted way,
I'd take it as an insult and I would find them threatening. I was paranoid that
they suspected my secret.
binge is an amount of food that is definitely
larger than most people would eat during a similar period of time and under
similar circumstances (e.g., most people will overeat on holidays). Bingers also
exhibit a lack of control over eating during the episode, calorie intake varying
from 3,000 to 40,000 per episode.
For those individuals in the later
stages of the starvation process who frequently use vomiting or laxatives to rid
themselves of unwanted calories, the following must be monitored: hematologic
indices; electrolytes; and hepatic, cardiac, and renal functioning.
Anorexics actually starve themselves, which leads to a number of health
problems, including heart disease, which can lead to death. The majority of
those who have anorexia are female, but there are still many cases where the
patients are male. This is a condition that tends to begin early in life,
usually in adolescence or the teen years (about one in every 100 girls have
anorexia).
Many treatment centres will liaise with the insurance
companies on your behalf and come up with a suitable plan for everyone. Some
rehab centres offer the clients financial advocacy to help and give counselling
concerning fees and payment options.
This would also help us in finding
more about the deep rooted cause of overeating. There are some ways that we can
do so we can stop overeating. One of the most obvious ways is to change our
lifestyle and habits.
You may come from a long line of skinny people or
have a naturally high metabolism. Do not think of these as problems.
