As the Cut It Out program explains: 揟he relationship between
Salon and cosmetology professionals are trained to highlight the way their clients look on the outside. In recent years, they have gone much further in uniting to make clients feel better on the inside by supporting the battle against domestic abuse.
For almost a decade, the Cut It Out program has raised awareness of domestic abuse and sought to bring help to victims in the salon setting. With the aid of Salons Against Domestic Abuse, Cut It Out has grown across the nation and internationally to Australia.
As the Cut It Out website at www.cutitout.org explains, 揙riginally a statewide program in Alabama created by the Women's Fund of Greater Birmingham and the Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Cut It Out trained over 500 Alabama salon professionals in 2002. As Grants Allocation Chair for this organization, Southern Living At HOME Founder and Executive Director Dianne Mooney envisioned a program that would reach nationwide.
揇uring this time, the National Cosmetology Association and Clairol Professional had separately identified domestic abuse as an area in which both could make a difference. The three organizations formed a partnership to take Cut It Out national in March 2003.?
Why salons? It only made sense because clients confide in and trust their hairdressers. Cut It Out is designed to build awareness of domestic abuse and train salon and cosmetology professionals to recognize warning signs and safely refer clients to helpful resources.
In 2007, Heidi Markow and the Beginning Over Foundation conducted the first Cut It Out seminar in Pennsylvania to TC Salon Spa in Bethlehem and to the Career Institute of Technology Cosmetology students.
As the Cut It Out program explains: 揟he relationship between a client and a salon professional is usually based on trust built up over time. Because of the intimate and nurturing nature of the relationship, a salon professional梬ho often sees a client on a regular basis梒an often spot signs of physical abuse that others may never see. A change in a client抯 behavior can also be easily recognized by a salon professional.
揜esearch shows that most battered women never call the police or go to a shelter. However, they do usually talk about the abuse with someone they trust. Because salon professionals are skilled and experienced listeners who are personally interested in their clients, many women suffering from abuse feel comfortable confiding in them梕ven if the abused women would never tell anyone else.?
Domestic violence cuts across all socioeconomic areas, cultures and races. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is (800) 799-SAFE (7233).
Salons and cosmetology schools have shown for years they truly care about their clients, even before the Cut It Out program made it formal with a national program. The Gene Juarez Academy in Seattle, Wash., has stressed community outreach in the training of its salon professionals. Its students provide complimentary hair and nail services to those who are homeless, battling life-threatening diseases, underprivileged children, or are starting their lives over after years of domestic violence and/or substance abuse.
揑t抯 all in an effort to help others feel good about themselves while making a difference in the community,?the academy explains.
The second section deals with the first sub-section
Possibly the most significant part of your paper, a dissertation introduction informs about the topic of your writing and provides a background to your research.
Dissertation introduction is a part of your dissertation project that contains the major purposes of your investigation and the ways you want to achieve them. What you need to do in dissertation introduction, however, is demonstrate your competence and research skills. You also have to stress your professional domain and the ability to present findings. Try to get your hands on some previous dissertation samples.
A dissertation introduction starts with the presentation of your main problem. It should give details the importance of the investigation of the topic you have chosen. You simply state what you want to discover and what methods you intend to use in order to achieve your purposes. Someone might think that writing a dissertation introduction is rather a tedious task. You may agree, but do not think it is easy as it does not have to be creative. By looking some past dissertation sample you can have a better idea regarding this. You have to describe your intentions, and the measures you are going to apply in order to satisfy your intentions.
The first portion must introduce the topic and the background of the various envelopments the topic brings with. The direct nature for exposure of the entire length must be done so that one is able to stand for the various sub sections the topic can be broken into..
The second section deals with the first sub-section of the thesis and the various categories into which the sections must comprise. It deals with the chapter one of the paper and the very illustration of what the section contemplates and focuses.
The next sections would make sure that all the further chapters are described and the objectives are to be harbored for the purpose of getting the job done. The various aims of the section must be explicitly taken care so that enough illustration is carried for the paper and the genuine interest for the successful making of the arguments is catered to its very best.
The concluding section takes variety of options and aligns the very topics conclusion and the passion to make a difference. It takes into account the various sections that are discussed so that one is able to take control of the moments of the master抯 paper and the various precise behavior of the paper on the whole.
Every dissertation introduction should present the purposes of your investigation. The main purpose of your investigation is to prove this or that point of view. Your dissertation introduction should also present the subjects and objects of your investigation. The introduction subject is what your investigation is directed to. The objects are the means of achieving your purposes. Your dissertation template introduction should also present the methods you are going to use during your investigation: whether you apply an interview, or a questionnaire, or perhaps you are to use the observations only (depends on your topic). Every point of your dissertation introduction should be marked out either by italics, or by bold type. Your dissertation introductions should be 1 or 2 pages long. But the main thing about the dissertation introductions is that they should clearly present the hypotheses.

For the Midwesterner seeking a career in massage therapy, Indiana massage therapy schools can prepare you for a bright future. Indiana Massage Therapy Schools will enable you to acquire the skills you need for success, with classroom courses and plenty of hands-on clinical massage training.
Massage therapy schools provide expert training in the high-demand skills required by professional medical offices, hospitals, and health care facilities. You can work toward a certificate or diploma from a vocational school, trade school or community college; or you can enter into two-year Associate of Science (AS) degree programs offered by some community colleges and alternative healing schools. You may also find four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) degree programs in some massage schools.
Massage courses usually will cover sciences, i.e., anatomy, physiology, pathology, nutrition, health, and hygiene, as well as theory and practice of massage, hydrotherapy, reflexology, and more. Some will even offer an education in accounting, marketing, managing, business ethics, and other business skills, for those intending to open an independent massage therapy business. Once graduation has been achieved, many massage students will begin an advanced, focused course of study that can lead to expertise in a specialized practice, such as acupuncture or chiropractics.
Indiana Massage Therapy Schools teach the necessary skills for treatment that can produce general relaxation to reduce stress and pain, as well as massage that promotes recovery from injury and general good health. Curriculums are designed to prepare graduates for entry-level positions as massage therapists in sports medicine, chiropractics, spas, fitness centers, sports organizations, health gyms, or in private practice.
The state of Indiana has not yet adopted any legislation regulating the practice of massage therapy, despite the fact that attempts to do so have been ongoing for nearly a decade! However, if you intend to enroll in one of the massage therapy schools in Indiana (or elsewhere, for that matter), you should make sure your school has been accredited by recognized state and national organizations. It is also helpful if your school is associated with massage therapy and bodywork organizations. Examples of desirable credentials you might find attached to a top massage school would be: Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and College of Technology (ACCSCT) and Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS). Accreditation will assure you of a quality education, and an accredited school will openly and proudly discuss accreditation with you.

Soy has a very unique background also.
Researching this article has definitely been eye opening! In trying to find the pros and cons of soy candles over paraffin candles, I discovered more that I didn抰 know, especially about paraffin!
To begin with, paraffin comes in 3 states, solid, liquid and gas. The simplest paraffin molecule is that of methane, CH4, a gas at room temperature. Heavier paraffin molecules such as octanes (or kerosene) are liquids. Another one of its liquid forms is known as mineral oil, which as everyone knows is used for treating constipation. And the way we all know paraffin best is in the solid form, wax.
There are many uses for paraffin-in crayons, as a food additive (in candy, cheese coatings, etc.), jet fuel, forensics, coating surfboards, skis and snowboards, and as a propellant for bullets through the chamber. I found many more uses for paraffin but I won抰 list them here.
Paraffin is not changed by adding most other chemicals to it, but it does burn readily. Because of the relatively low melting point of paraffin, stearic acid was added to elevate the melting point; this enabled the manufacture of free standing candles such as tapers and pillars. The lower melting paraffin (without stearic acid) is used more in container candles. This allows candle makers and manufacturers to tailor their own blends using their own blend of wax additives. This in turn lets the candlemaker have more freedom from batch to batch.
Soy has a very unique background also. The first thing I think about when I hear the word soy is the bean. It has been shown to have many healthful benefits and is good to eat. Soy is also used as a base for some infant formulas, and as feed for livestock. We use soybean oil for cooking too. What I didn抰 realize was that after WWI Henry Ford was a leader in soybean research. He had chemists come up with a way to produce artificial silk from soy and even had a suit made from it! Also he used soybean oil for painting his automobiles. This research led to the development of soy milk, ice cream and non-dairy whipped topping.
So there we have a brief history of paraffin and soy; but what about the advantages and disadvantages of each when it comes to a candle? The only advantage that I could find for using paraffin was that the manufacturer could tailor his use of fragrance additives to make his own unique blend. Paraffin, being a petroleum product, has soot as a by-product of burning, which can blacken walls and place carcinogens into the air you breathe. Soy burns clean and is nontoxic. Soy candles last longer because of their lower melting point, thereby enabling the candle to burn longer, as much as three times longer! So you get more for your money! Soybean oil is biodegradable and cleans up easily with a little soap and water; have you ever tried getting a paraffin wax stain out of something? It抯 not easy, if even possible. Lastly, soy is a renewable resource and growing soybeans benefits our farmers. The only people that benefit from using paraffin are the oil companies and they already have enough of our money!
I抳e come to the conclusion that the way to go is soy; therefore I offer only soy candles on my site, Peaceful Being. Feel free to check them out-loads of styles and fragrances from which to choose!
It is important to determine if online insurance CE is the right option for your needs
Have you thought about online insurance CE? Most insurance agents need to have the tools and resources available to them to do the job. Law requires insurance CE to hold a license to sell or to broker insurance. Moreover, a part of obtaining and keeping that insurance license is the requirement to get continuing education. Each state is a bit different but in most cases you will need to go back to school, so to speak, a few times a year to ensure you can maintain your license. The reasoning behind these programs is easy to see. Going back to school means that you will actually have the ability to sell insurance products under new laws and regulations and have a deep knowledge of the industry as a whole. However, for many agents, this is not an easy process to do.
The problem is that most continuing education is hard to obtain. You have take time out of your day to go to these programs. That can be very limiting. You need your time to make money. In other cases, you may need to attend schools or seminars located on other areas of the state. This can be even more frustrating because you have to spend even more time getting the education you are required to have. The good news is that you do not have to keep up this battle. Many insurance agents today are using online tools to help them to get the education they need and are required to have and they are doing so without the limitations that others are facing. You have a range of programs to choose from and you can enroll, do your education when you need to and get back to work when and how you would like to do so.
It is important to determine if online insurance CE is the right option for your needs. You will be doing most, if not all, of the education right online. This means you will need to have a high-speed connection and you will need to have access to a computer. You will need to have the skills to use these services as well. All of this adds up. It is a good idea for individuals to check out their options and to determine what is right for them. You can do this by learning more about these programs and how they work.
Many of the online continuing education providers for insurance agents can make getting your education easy. You can sign in, take the courses when you have the time to do so and move on. You can choose from a range of program options including many that can help you to grow your business. If you choose the right school, any and all of the programs will count for your continuing education requirements. That can bring a smile to anyone's face. You can get your education whenever you have the time to. You can even get instant scoring of tests right there.
The benefits of online insurance CE are obvious. You have the flexibility you need to get the continuing education you require but you do not have to find yourself limited by the options available to you. You can choose the courses you want, determine when to take them and then even take others. For the agent, there are no long driving trips back and forth. You can learn wherever you are. In addition, many of these programs are highly cost effective, too. All of this just makes it far easier to manage the requirements for your education than you realized it would be. Now may be the time to get those CE credits done.
3. Read, then read more: Reading comprehension is an area that gives
Quick quiz: Aside from going back and trying to recreate every class that you have taken in the last four years, what is the best way to prepare for a high school graduation exam? The answer: Learn all you can about the exam practice and follow a comprehensive test preparation program.
Getting ready for a high school graduation examination is a daunting task. After all, you are being tested over four years of material in several different subjects. But relax, you will be surprised at what you already know, and at what you can accomplish if you prepare early. Here is some advice on getting started:
1. Find out all that you can about the exam: Your school should be able to provide you with information about the exam including the format of the test and the material that will be covered. In fact, many high schools offer classes or in-class practice time. Do a web search to find the site for your specific examination. Most sites provide practice questions and article to resources for studying.
2. Study regularly and practice, practice, practice: Again, consult the test website for practice materials. After you find out what will be included on the exam, try to prioritize your studying, allowing more time to go over subjects or areas that you feel less confident about. Practice tests are the best way to gauge how successful you will be and to figure out where you should put the most emphasis when preparing. Ask your teachers if they have practice questions that you can work on as most schools receive these materials.
3. Read, then read more: Reading comprehension is an area that gives many students headaches. The best way to improve your reading comprehension is to read as much as possible. While reading, look for meaning, actively thinking about what you are reading and possible questions. After you finish a few paragraphs, see if you can paraphrase the key points. Reading frequently improves your ability to concentrate, which can ultimately raise your test scores in every area.
4. Practice your test-taking skills: Regardless of your mastery of the content material, you can benefit from using good test-taking strategies. There are literally hundreds of books and websites devoted to this topic. Test taking strategies including time management, eliminating wrong answers and 'smart' guessing, can dramatically improve your scores on any test.
In addition to studying the specific content and using good test-taking skills, be sure that you are prepared on test day. Staying up to study at the last minute is never a good idea. You won't retain the information in your over-tired brain and you won't perform as well on the test day. Start the day with a healthy breakfast so you won't be distracted by hunger. Last, but not least, relax. Yes, you need to do well but worrying won't improve your score. Although you may not want to even consider the possibility, the fact is that even if you don't pass a section of the exam the first time, you can re-take it, with the added knowledge that you gained from the first try. The single most important thing that you can do to improve your test scores is to start preparing early. Working diligently over a few months, and reviewing at a steady pace will garner you the best results.

Improvements continue to multiply throughout Dallas Schools.
Perhaps one of the most famous cities in the state of Texas, Dallas has many things to recommend it. From the beautiful downtown architecture to the Dallas Cowboys football team, it seems that everything Dallas is wonderful. This includes the Dallas Schools.
Dallas Schools honored 13 schools as 揺xemplary?and 67 as 搑ecognized?this past February, at an IBM Corporation-sponsored dinner. No other urban school district in Texas had a larger number of exemplary and recognized schools in 2006. In order to be rated exemplary, 90% of all students in Dallas Schools must pass all subject areas of the TAKS, officially known as the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test. To earn a 搑ecognized?status, 70% of all students in Dallas Schools must pass all subject areas. 揟he students, teachers, administrators, and parents who worked hard to achieve these high Texas Education Agency rankings deserve applause and congratulations,?said Dallas Schools?General Superintendent Michael Hinojosa. 揟hey are an inspiration to all of us.?br />
Improvements continue to multiply throughout Dallas Schools. This past February, additional funding was received from a new arts coalition that will allow for 140 new certified music and art teachers. These teachers will be hired by the Dallas Schools?district over the next 6 years, including 60 who have already been hired. And by 2009 the district plans to have all Elementary Dallas Schools offering 45 minutes of art and music each week. The Wallace Foundation, one of the members of this arts coalition, will give $8 million during the next three years to Big Thought. Big Thought is a Dallas-based nonprofit arts group, which will help establish the Dallas Arts Learning Initiative. This initiative seeks to increase the amount and quality of arts education students in Dallas Schools will receive.
In addition, the Dallas Schools?Talented and Gifted magnet and the School of Science and Engineering have been named the two top high schools in the country by Newsweek Magazine. It is the second straight year that the Talented and Gifted magnet (TAG) has earned the honor. 揟his is a credit to everyone involved with both schools,?said Hinojosa. 揟hese schools are setting the example for others in both the district and the rest of the nation.?The Science and Engineering magnet (SEM) moved from 8th on the list last year to 2nd in 2006. Also, during the last five years, the Dallas Schools?Science and Engineering magnet has been the number one in the nation for minorities passing Calculus AB and BC exams regardless of size, and the number one school in the world for students passing Calculus AB. 揟his is the accumulation of several years of extraordinary work by the students and staff affiliated with the school,?said SEM principal Richard White. 揥e have had a healthy competition for years with the TAG Magnet, and now that both schools are named the best in the county, everyone has benefited, especially the students.?br />
Indeed, Dallas Schools are something to get excited about. From efforts to expand services at the elementary level, to nationally and globally recognized schools, the opportunities abound for the students of Dallas Schools. Stroking, compression, and percussion are the three types
Are you thinking about getting an education from one of the many Massage Therapy Schools in the state of Michigan? Do you know exactly what it is that you are interested in doing as a professional massage therapist? Well, there are numerous styles of massage therapy, so first let's find out which of the methods interests you before enrolling in any massage therapy school.
Massage styles vary to some degree, but all focus on treatment of muscles and soft tissue to affect various healing results. Depending on your goals and aspirations, you can decide to focus on one or more types of massage training, including medical massage, sports massage, therapeutic massage, and many others.
The technique used in medical massage involves manipulation of body tissues to bring about healing. Therapeutic massage originated in China over 3,000 years ago and is used to improve circulation to promote healing of muscle tissue. A variation of this massage was developed in Sweden in the 19th century, and combines exercise with massage to treat joint and muscle pain. You'll find this to be a common type of massage taught in massage therapy schools. Practitioners treat clients who have received physical injuries related to accidents, trauma, and sports.
Active release massage involves releasing blood flow to nerves that are blocked by scar tissue, causing aching, burning, numbness, or tingling sensations. Active release massage is effective for relieving pain and tension in clients with problems of chronic back pain, knee pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, and shin splints, among others. The active release technique involves stretching muscles and tendons and using pressure to break down scar tissue to increase blood flow to the affected areas.
Stroking, compression, and percussion are the three types of hand movements used by all massage therapists. Massage schools teach stroking (the use light or hard, and long or short strokes to relax muscles and improve circulation) compression (kneading, squeezing, and use of friction to stretch muscles and tendons to ease movement), and percussion (rapid repletion of strikes of the hands or fists on specific body points to increase circulation). You will practice all types of hand movements in your massage education.
Consider the type of massage therapy you can learn in massage school, and the types of people with whom you will work. Whichever is your oyster, you'll find the training you need at the top massage therapy schools.

The failure to attain what we want does not create a new problem.
Accountancy may appear daunting to some; but for those who are keen to play with numbers and are efficient in handling finances, a career in accountancy is worth the shot. From small firms to large companies, everyone needs a good accountant. And people need accountants for personal taxation issues and financial planning. So, accountancy is surely a good career option.
These principles are the requirements, attributes, and actions necessary in order to accomplish success in life. They apply to any situation, and to every individual! However, learning about and understanding these secrets is relatively simple; the difficulty is implementing them. And yet, when they are understood and applied, they literally are the formula to accomplish any of our goals, pursuits, or dreams.
Accountants come in all shapes and sizes, so choose carefully; it is important that your new accountant is appropriate to your needs. Be aware of what different types of accountants can and can't provide for you; a one-man-band accountant for instance may be harder to get to speak to as they are spread more thinly between clients, they may not be reachable when they go on holiday for example; a very large firm on the other hand may be geared to servicing very large businesses and may have a less personal touch; think about what is important to you and your firm.
The failure to attain what we want does not create a new problem. It merely makes more urgent the necessity of solving an existing one - If we have the courage to pursue our dreams - all can come true, the means we use must be as pure as the ends we seek. Walk slowly if you may but never walk backwards - prepare and some day your chance will come.

Both organizations have ensured that business organizations follow the ethical standards laid out by them by instituting disciplinary actions against organizations that have been guilty of violating them.
Think about specialization requirements that are the need of the current market and equip yourself accordingly. Your work can be varied and you can gain interesting experience in accounting. You can get employed in the Internal Revenue Service or start your own firm, depending on how resourceful you are. People in the entry-level accounting jobs earn between $30,000 and $50,000 a year, and with adequate experience and training you can earn much more.
The failure to attain what we want does not create a new problem.
But is the backlash based on anything more than
Indianapolis Schools face the same challenges as most of the nation抯 urban schools: lack of resources and funding, high poverty levels, and increasing pressure to meet testing standards. The 2001 No Child Left Behind (NCLB) act that required all states to have all students to proficient levels in state tests by 2014 was created to raise national standards and demand accountability. No one in Indianapolis Schools is surprised that meeting those standards is proving to be a challenge. That抯 the whole point.
While educators and parents in Indianapolis Schools are divided in their support for NCLB, and testing in general, the recent use of waivers for graduation has created more than its expected amount of tension. Here抯 the issue. Indianapolis Schools, along with all other public districts in the state, test children using the Indiana Statewide Test for Educational Practice (ISTEP) exams. In order to graduate, Indianapolis Schools?seniors must pass the Graduation Qualification Examination (GQE). The students are given five chances to pass the test, and it is designed to test mainly eighth and ninth grade knowledge. Sound reasonable right?
That抯 why a recent Indianapolis Star editorial blasted Indianapolis Schools for what it called, 揻ailing in its job of providing a rigorous education for all students? based on reports that 17% of students graduated with waivers and had not passed the GQE. The angry responses generated by parents of Indianapolis Schools?students were surprising.
But is the backlash based on anything more than a few miffed moms? Here抯 the rest of the story. Every single student in Indianapolis Schools is required to take the ISTEP and the GQE in order to graduate. This includes students with special needs, like autism, who have specialized individual educational plans (IEPS) to measure their success. Indianapolis Schools?parents and educators are furious that a child could meet all the requirements of an IEP, bring home great report cards, and still not be issued a diploma.
The other area of controversy is in testing students who do not have English as their primary language. Should they be denied an Indianapolis Schools?diploma if their grasp of core subjects in their native language is solid? The tests (in every subject) are only given in English. While this spurs national debate, no one in Indianapolis Schools really seems comfortable with denying students with disabilities diplomas. But the desire to uphold strict standards has some Indianapolis Schools?supporters fearful of lowering accountability measures.
The Indianapolis Star opinion cited above expresses concerns that waivers will 搖ndermine the value of a high school diploma.?It points out schools like Frankfort where 14% of seniors repeatedly failed the exam. The 17% waiver rate puts Indianapolis Schools three times higher than the state average for granting waivers. Indianapolis Schools need to look at the numbers and determine exactly how many waivers are granted for legitimate reasons, and how many are just glossing over standards. But defining those terms, and coming up with just solutions, is likely to spur more heated debate in Indianapolis Schools in the upcoming year.

In terms of evolution reading is a relatively new skill, something that is not innate, but has to be learned. As writing can differ between cultures, so then is how we actually read. Compare for example, our alphabetic scripts against the logographic picture style of the Chinese. Written scripts have undergone many changes over the centuries, and written text has evolved into today抯 format progressing through several different alphabets, but still only taking a mere 500 years to reach its present form. So where did it all start?
Tracing back thru time, we can find basic evidence around the 4th millennium BC where marks were made on clay tablets. Archaeologists argue the prehistory of books began near Babylon, and that the art of writing was probably invented for commercial reasons. For example, recording how many oxen one owns etc. These tablets are among the oldest examples of writing known, and just by looking at these, and trying to guess their meaning, reflects the preservation of a thought that occurred long after they were written. Writing was recognized as a powerful skill and scribes rose swiftly through the ranks of Mesopotamian society. Although reading was seen as important, it did not get as much notice as the ability to record the data. As the scribes knew, and society was to find, the written word depended on the ability to restore it, that is, to read it. By the 2nd millennium BC, Mesopotamian script changed from pictographic to cuneiform writing (wedge shaped signs representing sounds instead of objects), and by around 2000BC the first true alphabetic system (where a phoneme is represented by a letter) appeared. Although perhaps a Greek development, the Egyptian alphabetic system shows some elements of such representations. All European languages are derived from the Greek alphabet.
Before the advent of printing, scribes laboriously provided the production of text. Knowing Latin well enough to read and speak it regardless of the vernacular one spoke marked an individual as literate, and literacy tended to be limited to those of privileged birth.
By the 15th century, Gutenberg invented the first printing press in Germany in 1440. Printing removed the need for scribes to reproduce texts and made reading material more available in the languages of the people. By the mid 16th century school systems were starting to expand, and the term literate became more of a descriptor to dichotomize the population into those who could read and write in the local dialects. In the 17th century, 50% of all titles printed in Europe were religious works.
As urbanization and industrialization spread, children began to be removed from the workforce, making them available for education. However, free sponsored education was not instituted until 1870. Reading however, took a big leap during the 19th century when cheap books appeared for the masses.
By the end of the 19th century the term literate began to refer to measures of certain skills of reading and writing. Although it would be nice to have 憉niversal literacy?unfortunately this is not the case, depending on how you define literacy itself.

Yet, Bognor failed to boom as Hotham hoped the town would.
Bognor is one of the oldest Saxon sites on record in West Sussex. The town is recorded in AD 680 as Bucgan ora meaning Bucge's shore. Bucge was one of the few Saxon women to have a place named after her. Over the years this Saxon-landing place became a small fishing village, and as with many places the name changed with time.
What ultimately revolutionized Bognor was a rich merchant from London, Richard Hotham, who began vacationing there in the summer of 1784. At the time, it was popularly believed that bathing in the sea was good for the health, and consequently it became a popular form of leisure among the upper classes. As a result, seaside resorts like Brighton, Hastings, and Eastbourne began to be extremely popular. Hotham wanted to turn Bognor into a resort of his own, even named Hothamton after him. However, he wanted it to be a quiet civilized place, unlike the more popular resorts, which could often become rowdy and chaotic. He began by purchasing the farmhouse where he had been spending his summers and renovating it starting in 1787. The building would become known as Bognor Lodge, and remain standing until the 1930s.
Yet, Bognor failed to boom as Hotham hoped the town would. Once in 1796 Prince George did visit, but he stayed only for a month and even then his only concern was to be with his mistress. Drawing prominence to your resort in those days meant persuading royalty if you wished to have real success. Much like today's celebrities, wherever the royals traveled, swarms of wealthy people would follow. A few did however, such as Queen Victoria who vacationed in Bognor frequently in her childhood in the 1820's, and Princess Charlotte, the daughter of King George III, also came for a summer between 1808 and 1811.

What surprised me was the minimum time frame within
And it抯 hard to think of anything like IIT anywhere in the world. It is a very unique institution.
Bill Gates, Microsoft
I read this statement made by the worlds richest and the most famous person Bill Gates in a daily newspaper when I was in my early teens. From then my fantasy and dream has always been to some how enter the campus of IIT. I revealed my intention to my parents who gladly obliged and asked me to do my very best academically if I wanted my dream to come true. I started searching for resources online for my preparation for the IIT entrance coaching. I live in a small town in remote south Tamil Nadu where few people even know about IIT and its high standard of education.
After a lot of searching I came across one fantastic site which is a wholesome site for all possible resources regarding IIT and other major entrance coaching and learning material. I was surprised at the total commitment of fellow IITians and the dedication with which they worked to help other students excel in a field which they have treaded previously. All classes, tutoring and counseling are done by IIT students and so I could confidently register and start my dream program. The course material, 24x7 tutoring help, one to one interaction with real IIT students, 憇olve it live?problem solving facility etc are all only a drop in the ocean as the site offers a wide range of online help which is very useful for students like me who had no hope to even aspire for an IIT coaching previously.
What surprised me was the minimum time frame within which I could get a tuition session with a real tutor. Flexible timings, instant problems solving help, clear my funda help through which I could learn my lessons from the fundamentals, online test series, and full compensation refund in times when the server is down etc are some of the great features which made me choose this online tutoring site for my dream project.
The site follows a white board technology wherein the student can work with his tutor in real time. I was able to get quick and clear guidance in all subjects because of this great feature. My parents were worried initially about the rates and the mode of payment. But this site is so user friendly that it receives payment through cheque, account to account transfer or through a credit card.
The fee for the course is very nominal keeping in mind the various excellent features which I could not see in any correspondence course. Even if I were to find a coaching center where would I get the real IIT憇 to help me through my problems and lessons. Moreover every rupee I pay is converted as points and as I progress I use these points to learn new things from the tutors. Rescheduling and canceling the tutoring session is not complicating as I was able to reschedule my class during a period of emergency.
I just can抰 wait for the live video feature through which I can watch live demo of all my problems solved online. This will create a virtual class room feeling and I am sure it will definitely help me with all my aspiration and very soon find me a place in one of the greatest institutions in India.
For 2009, the FIRST Robotics Competition will be called "Lunacy"
FIRST Robotics began in 1989 as a way of encouraging students to choose careers in math, science and technology, while also building their life skills and instilling a spirit of "gracious professionalism" and humility in its participants. Without "chest thumping" or "sticky-sweet platitudes," as the site explains, young people engage in competitions where they build robots. The Junior FIRST LEGO league is for 6-9 year olds.
The FIRST LEGO league targets younger children ages 9-14, while the FIRST Robotics Competition helps high school age students. The FIRST Tech Challenge provides more affordable robotics technology to high school students. More than 137,000 kids participated in last year's program, spanning across 42 countries from Germany and the UK to Turkey and Israel.
FIRST Robotics founder Dean Kamen is an inventor, physicist, engineer and entrepreneur. He is perhaps best known for inventing the Segway Human Transporter, an environmentally friendly short distance travel solution. He's also developed the HomeChoice portable dialysis machine (Baxter Healthcare) and the Independence IBOT 4000 mobile robot system (Johnson & Johnson).
He's currently working on a water purification system that promises to provide clean drinking water to 1.1 billion people around the world. For his efforts, he's received the Heinz Award in Technology, the National Medal of Technology presented by President Clinton (2000) and the Lemelson-MIT Prize (2002), among others.
For 2009, the FIRST Robotics Competition will be called "Lunacy" to celebrate the 40th anniversary of our moon landing and will be held in Atlanta April 16-18. This year's autonomous robots will be restricted by size and weight (no more than 5 ft tall, no wider than 38 inches, no deeper than 28 inches and no heavier than 150 lbs) and must be able to pick up orbit balls (2-point moon rocks, empty cells and 15-point super cells) and transfer them into a trailer hitched to their opponent's robot in just two minutes and fifteen seconds.
While 80-90% of the teams participating this year will be returning from previous years, there are 300 rookie teams joining as well. Of course, even given the charitable contributions, each team will likely need to come up with $9,000 - $10,000 to cover meals, transportation, lodging, food, robot parts and lab fees.
The Baby Boomers grew up fascinated by the Space Race and the emergence of heroic astronauts as role models. Today's youth are more into computers. Even so, television shows like "Mythbusters," "Build It Bigger" and battling robot competitions are trying to intrigue young people to look to physics, engineering and technology. However, hands-on learning with robot design events like FIRST Robotics may be what really helps seal the deal.
Andy Bell, a product manager at National Instruments, explained, "Working with colleges and universities enabled us to help educators shift from lecture-based learning to hands-on learning. Through our partnership with Lego, we saw an opportunity to do the same with an even younger audience... and do so in a very engaging and entertaining way."
The grading rule of thumb that is used in other classes
Many current music educators grew up in a time when being in an ensemble was solely about playing the music for the next concert. I personally cannot recall ever doing a worksheet or any real music theory work while in high school. It seemed that all I had to do to get an "A" was come to my lessons, play at the concerts, and otherwise stay out of trouble. Outside practice was expected but not enforced. I did not realize until many years later that this method of teaching had set me up for years of mediocrity and frustration.
The primary effect of giving a student an A for doing very little work produces much the same effect that we see in society where people become dependent on entitlement programs. Being given something for nothing slowly undermines a person's motivation and softens their personal initiative. In the music classroom this translates into producing a stagnant musician that has no driving force to improve his or her musical abilities. For many years I suffered with wondering why the members of my ensemble wasn't improving the way I felt they should. Finally I concluded that it was my fault for not pushing them hard enough. I had fallen back into my mentor's footsteps and had been cranking out the easy A's to my students regardless of what they truly deserved.
The grading rule of thumb that is used in other classes should also be used in the music classroom. This rule of thumb states that an A is to be reserved for excellent work while a C is given for work that is simply average. If you were to take this rule and apply it to your students, would they get the same grade that you gave them on their last report card? How did they come to earn the A that they received? Was it simply for showing up to class or was there real, verifiable learning going on?
The day that I realized my mistake and started requiring more work from my students the ensemble seemed to blossom almost overnight. I began requiring two hours of home practice each week, weekly theory worksheets, and mandatory private lessons or group sectionals. By the next concert I was already seeing a difference. By the end of the third quarter the new scale memorization requirements I threw in had turned my jazz and pep bands into the best groups that I had ever conducted. The attitudes of my students also changed. They realized that they were improving and that their hard work was indeed paying off. This in turn made them more interested in performing and made them want to practice even more.
Perhaps most important of all, requiring more of my students also required more of myself as a teacher. I started reading educational journals again, determined to improve myself as a conductor and as a teacher. I started writing about my experiences to help other people improve and learn from my mistakes. These simple things breathed new life into a career that was on the verge of being consumed by apathy. I love teaching again, and it is all because I finally broke free from the bonds of being a mediocre band director. If you care for your students and want them to come to love and appreciate music as much as you do, never again give away an easy A.

Few people are aware of this seldom-talked about technique
Are you able to still remember the cartoon series featuring Wily Coyote and the Roadrunner?
"Fast" brings back the picture of the Roadrunner zooming past the hurdles laid out by Wily Coyote.
Speed may allow you to arrive at your planned destination ; but along the way, were you able to be aware of the things which you will have missed while speeding along in the fast lane?
As in driving, zooming along quickly doesn't give you adequate opportunity to see and enjoy the view - and exactly the same thing may be said about learning.
A lot of what you learn can be acquired through reading. The straightforward activity of getting in a comfortable position and beginning to read a book of your preference opens a completely new world for you. Reading assists you to tap into the minds of great people.
And the more that you read, the more you know.
In the hope of reading more books, some attempt speed reading, because it is believed that the faster you read, the more that you cover.
Fast track reading may involve reading by phrases and ideas compared with the normal word-for-word methodology. Fast track reading enables you to cover more pages at the same rate.
Nonetheless one problem with this strategy of learning is that you tend to recall only a small bit of the key concept. There is a danger that you might miss the important details in the book.
There is a solution for this.
Few people are aware of this seldom-talked about technique in fast learning. This is based upon the principle that the mind thinks in pictures.
Learning is sped up when you "see" the whole idea of the write-up or book. Seeing "live pictures" of ideas and thoughts of the author makes reading experiential and unforgettable. When you see nothing when reading, you learn nothing, so fast reading becomes worthless.
This method is called visualization. Visualisation is crucial to speed learning. Visualization in reading is like building a jigsaw puzzle where pieces are put together to form the complete picture. The entire thing not only "appears", but essentially "comes alive" before you. All these happen in the field of the mind.
Just going thru the motions of fast reading can give you a hazy image of the topic matter. But like a mist, this picture regularly quickly vaporizes into thin air. Speed reading without visible pictures often informs but very seldom impresses.
Impressions last while info changes over time. Past information is simply forgotten in favour of new material. Impressions transform you, and these are stored permanently in the mind.
For learning how to become effective, it needs brief pauses to be well placed to visualize and reflect. Effective learning isn't about how quickly you can finish reading a book. It is more about how you effectively comprehend the concepts produced by the writer.
Visible images provide enduring impressions. Go after concepts and how they can enrich people's existence. Go for lasting impressions and revelations that will mould you into a better individual.

Thoughts to Consider
Both ICS and Kursk State Technical University believe that there is no equivalent substitute for the learning process taking place in the traditional classroom with consistent teacher-learner face to face contact and interaction. However, we are also mindful of the fact that in today抯 society many adults who are desirous of continuing their education do not have the accessibility to return to the classroom setting, due to conditions of time, finance, or geography. We offer an alternative to the needs of such adults.
We want to offer motivated working adults, who are willing to take personal responsibility for their education and, thus, their future, an opportunity to grow personally and professionally through our ICS-KURSK collaborative programs.
As society抯 educational needs change, education must change to meet them. We believe that online e-learning is an integral part of the educational wave of the future.
ICS-KURSK collaborative programs are for anyone and everyone who
desires to have a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of the subjects offered through self-directed learning environment who can demonstrate learning commitments. It is even more suitable for people in a wide variety of situations that make on-campus study impossible.
We expect our adult learners to be well motivated and manage their own learning. We think that this is crucial in their performance as a motivated learner. As such, our programs are designed for motivated adult learners capable of independent self-study who are willing to assume a large measure of personal responsibility for their education. The programs provide motivated adult learners with necessary guidance to assist
them in organizing and focusing their efforts for optimum results within a reasonable period of time.
Different types of lifts are available to aid physically handicapped individuals in transferring from one floor to another, the dumbwaiters are also excellent contraptions for such people, especially for those who have limited mobility due to decreased strength (in the elderly), arthritis, disabilities, and other medical ailments. Dumbwaiters are actually small elevators, which travel across different floor levels of a structure in a downward or upward course from the starting point or base. These units allow certain individuals to move laundry or grocery items, and the likes, without having to carry such items and climbing up and down the staircases. Doing the latter can further put the weak individual at risk for falls and other related injuries. Dumbwaiter elevators are widely used in schools, nursing homes, hospitals and residential homes today. Most people consider the existence of dumbwaiters in the homes as an expensive luxury and extravagance. However, there is an increasing value for devices and equipment such as these since it can greatly aid the elderly or disabled consumers. To cater to such needs, the mobility aid industry has created the dumbwaiter elevators that can be used by both special and normal individuals. With this, the dumbwaiter is now seen not solely as a lavish appliance but also as an aid for those people who need such equipment the most. Dumbwaiters may be installed in a particular room, like a bedroom or kitchen, depending on the needs and preferences of the user or homeowner. And did you know that you can build a dumbwaiter elevator in an already existing wall in your own home without any professional help? Yes, you can. But doing so takes some right planning and skill. Here's a simple set up. How to Build a Manual Residential Dumbwaiter Step One Plan the direction of your personal dumbwaiter. Measure the floor space that your dumbwaiter will consume. Choose a spot that has no hindrances. For safety purposes, check for pipes and wires before starting. Plumbing that are accidentally cut can be really messy to fix up. Also, cut wires may result to electrical shock. Step Two Build a sturdy case (shaped like a box) for the dumbwaiter. Good quality wood or pine plank box will give the case a finished look. Step Three Purchase a ready-made dumbwaiter, or simply make one from an old cupboard or shelving unit. Make sure to place a rim around the base to contain the items and avoid them from sliding off the shelf. Step Four Drill holes. Attach beige sash cord to your dumbwaiter. Wrap the cord around the pulleys that are attached to the top of the dumbwaiter's case on two sides. Step Five Attach weights to the cord as a counterbalance to the load. You may experiment with various weights to achieve the right balance for the dumbwaiter. Step Six Lastly, have four springs mounted to the base of the case to ensure that the dumbwaiter will not be damaged if in case it falls too rapidly on the bottom floor.

How to Build a Manual Residential Dumbwaiter
Step One
Plan the direction of your personal dumbwaiter. Measure the floor space that your dumbwaiter will consume. Choose a spot that has no hindrances. For safety purposes, check for pipes and wires before starting. Plumbing that are accidentally cut can be really messy to fix up. Also, cut wires may result to electrical shock.
Step Two
Build a sturdy case (shaped like a box) for the dumbwaiter. Good quality wood or pine plank box will give the case a finished look.
Step Three
Purchase a ready-made dumbwaiter, or simply make one from an old cupboard or shelving unit. Make sure to place a rim around the base to contain the items and avoid them from sliding off the shelf.
Step Four
Drill holes. Attach beige sash cord to your dumbwaiter. Wrap the cord around the pulleys that are attached to the top of the dumbwaiter's case on two sides.
Step Five
Attach weights to the cord as a counterbalance to the load. You may experiment with various weights to achieve the right balance for the dumbwaiter.
Step Six
Lastly, have four springs mounted to the base of the case to ensure that the dumbwaiter will not be damaged if in case it falls too rapidly on the bottom floor.

You may believe that your child is from the wrong country
So you are a parent thinking about sending your teenage son or daughter to a boarding school. But you are hesitating because you have heard all these stories about cost, boredom, race, separation from your child and prison-like surrounds. Well forget those tales. They are all myths.
It is may be that you have seen some Hollywood movie where the girls cannot wait to break out and attend wild parties or the boys are jocks who drink too much. The reality is far different.
Let us begin with the cost. Firstly most boarding schools offer payment plans to any parent who may have difficulty in making a full payment in one hit. Second there are scholarships available for students in a variety do areas. Third you should remember that the cost of feeding and clothing a teen during their secondary school years can be quite a tidy sum. With your teen away at boarding school, you will save a great deal on your household costs.
Forget about your teen being bored at some strict and old fashioned boarding school. In fact so popular are some schools you may have a job just getting your child accepted. There is a waiting list at many schools. And one of the reasons is the high academic results achieved by these schools and another is the fine array of extra-curricula programs on offer. It might be in the sporting field, in outdoor education or even in the performing arts. The opportunities in these programs are fantastic and teens love this side of their education.
You may believe that your child is from the wrong country or culture to attend a certain boarding school or schools. In fact many schools positively discriminate and accept students from different backgrounds in order to have a balanced range of students and staff on campus.
Many parents worry about being separated from their child. They do not understand the way the school works. The student goes home several times a year and throughout the summer. Parents can keep in touch through email, telephone and even writing letters. The school encourages families to keep in touch and does a fine job in informing parents of the progress each student is making.
There might have been a time when some boarding schools were austere and perhaps intimidating. Today that is no longer the case. Schools have bright and airy rooms with wonderful facilities like libraries, sporting facilities and performing arts spaces. The actual buildings are welcoming and friendly.
So whatever helps you decide on a boarding school for your teen, do not let it be the myths described in this article. As myths they are not true. And you can prove that simply by going online and taking a virtual tour of any of these boarding schools. You could ask for a brochure about the school or even make a visit. See for yourself first hand how welcoming and inviting these modern day boarding schools have become. Give your child a chance to see things as well and making a decision about a boarding school education will be easy and potentially rewarding.

The number of Christian wilderness camps is not as great as wilderness camps per
A Christian wilderness camp differs little from any other type of wilderness camp except in one regard. A Christian wilderness camp includes the teaching of the Christian faith as part of the camp抯 therapy program. To many parents this is a good and desirable thing. The parents have a strong faith and want to share it with their troubled teen; so much so that there are often opportunities for parents to stay for a short time at a Christian wilderness camp. It抯 a team effort of family and staff working together to help the child.
But apart from the teaching of what is right and wrong and of helping the teens develop a moral compass, a Christian wilderness camp is like any other. It抯 set in the beautiful wilderness where the air is clean and clear and the scenery spectacular. The camps offer all manner of exciting activities in the outdoors ?things like hiking, camping, rock climbing, water-based activities and more. These camps include a trek into the wilderness where the teens have to make their own fire, cook their own meals and make their own accommodation by pitching a tent, etc.
These situations mean the kids are so busy doing different and exciting things they have little time to worry about their problems. In the therapy sessions they get to discuss their problems with trained professionals. The kids make new friends, get away from the source of their problems and help themselves to a new attitude and a better lifestyle. Their self-esteem and self-confidence takes off and they marry that with sound Christian principles.
The number of Christian wilderness camps is not as great as wilderness camps per se but the ones which do exist are highly attended and come with excellent recommendations from both parents of troubled teens and the teens as well. The religious teaching aspect needs to be explained in that it is not a dominant aspect of the camp抯 program but rather a significant aspect in which the teachings of Jesus play a role in the therapy and teaching program.
The costs of a Christian wilderness camp are in line with other types of wilderness camps and teens can look forward to the full range of outdoor activities found elsewhere.
One aspect of a Christian wilderness camp involves the members of staff. Each is a committed Christian and so all the programs and therapy sessions are based on the Christian faith. The teens are dealing with adults who are not only trained and experienced professionals but also people who believe in their Christian faith and practice it in their daily lives.
One major benefit for parents is that their teen not only gets to overcome their troubles but also receives instruction in the Christian faith. As the parents are often Christians this means a lot both to them, the teen and the staff at the wilderness camp.
Of course Christian wilderness camps are open to anyone and with their fine record, they make an excellent choice when helping a troubled teen.
